The 2024 edition of Akwa Ibom christmas celebration, Christmas Unplugged, has kicked off in grand style on Sunday December 1, with Abak Local Government Area taking centre stage.

The event, held at the Christmas Park, showcased the Sights and Sounds of Abak LGA, with their rich cultural heritage on display.

The people proudly displayed their unique culture, stunning traditional attire, and delectable local cuisine, leaving the audience in awe.

The ceremony also featured a colourful parade, traditional dances, and music performances that highlighted the diversity and richness of Akwa Ibom State’s cultural heritage.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry were on hand to receive the Abak delegation at the Christmas Park in Uyo.

Sir Udoh commended the people of Abak for their impressive display of culture and tradition, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the state’s cultural heritage, noting that it is a key aspect of Akwa Ibom’s identity.

The Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Lady Ime Charles, expressed gratitude to the state government for creating an opportunity for Abak people at this year’s edition of the Akwa Ibom Christmas Unplugged to showcase their culture and tradition to the world.

She pledged the readiness of her administration to continue promoting and preserving the area’s cultural heritage for future generations.

Also speaking, the Media Consultant to the Governor, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the Paramount Ruler of the area, represented by the Village Head of Abak, Obong Ifiok Umanah, and a former Member of the State Executive Council, Barr. Joe Ukpong, commended Gov Umo Eno for sustaining the yearly festivity which offers an opportunity for Akwa Ibom people to gather at the Christmas Park to celebrate their unique cultural identity, and equally appreciated the people of Abak for turning up in numbers at this year’s edition of sights and sounds of Abak.

The people of Eastern Obolo will have their day on Monday December 2, to showcase their cultural richness.

Christmas Unplugged is an annual event that celebrates the state’s rich cultural heritage and promotes tourism. The event features a series of activities, including cultural performances, music concerts, and traditional games, amongst several others.
