The Christmas festival in Akwa Ibom State stands out as the most celebrated event of its kind. Held annually at the end of the year in Christmas Park, previously known as Christmas Village, the festival started in 2019 and has become a month-long event designed to capture the festive spirit, promote peace, and provide a platform for entertainment, cultural displays, and talent shows.

Imagine a whole month filled with non-stop fun, excitement, and cultural showcases right in the heart of Uyo.

Last year, the festival was themed “Christmas Unplugged,” which ran from December 1, 2023, to January 1, 2024. Throughout December, each Local Government Area (LGA) had its own special day at the Village Square arena. This daily event was a chance for each LGA to showcase its rich cultural heritage.

Each day, one LGA had the opportunity to present its unique culture through various performances and displays. The LGAs were scheduled in alphabetical order, ensuring each had its time to shine over the 31 days of December. The presentations were vibrant, showcasing diverse forms, colors, and traditions.

It was like traveling through Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural tapestry without leaving Uyo! Whether it was mesmerizing masquerade performances, jaw-dropping displays of handmade crafts, or mind-blowing feats like pouring palm wine into baskets without spilling a drop, there was never a dull moment.

Akwa Ibom is renowned for its peace and hospitality, and this was reflected in the festival. A special day was set aside to honor the various ethnic communities residing in Akwa Ibom, showcasing the state’s inclusive spirit.

The Christmas festival also provided excellent opportunities for businesses. Companies gained significant brand visibility, networked with others, and demonstrated their commitment to corporate social responsibility by participating in the festival. Visitors enjoyed outdoor catering and lounging areas, creating a relaxing and festive atmosphere.

It featured numerous games and activities for people of all ages, ensuring everyone had a memorable and enjoyable experience. It was a vibrant and inclusive celebration that brought together diverse cultures and communities, making it a highlight of the holiday season in Akwa Ibom State.
